Event Description:
2nd Chance Food Truck Mission:
For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for cooking. To have someone take a bite of food and instantly be transported to a specific time and place in their life, taken back to a special event, or a memory of a loved one that fills their heart, to be part of that is truly special.
Along with my passion for food God gave me the heart to help people, especially individuals that have, or are going through similar situations that I have as well. This is why I am starting a food truck that only employs individuals that have recently been incarcerated, or just coming out of a rehabilitation program. The recidivism rate is so high, up to 75% in some age groups, because the lack of(long gap) employment history, they do not have an education, or the skills to find gainful employment. Most of all they don't have hope and all they really want is a second chance.
While employed in this 18 month program they will learn all aspects of running a business, inventory, customer service, food cost, menu building, etc... Employees will attend a church of their choice at least twice a month as well as volunteer 10 hours a month at a charity or community organization. In addition, to show them the importance of giving back to the community, every month 10% of our profits will go to a different charity or organization, and that is where the employees will volunteer as well. At the end of the 18 months they will find employment in the community using everything they've acquired over the last year and a half.
I know this is the ministry that God has prepared me for and together with your help we can give individuals, that are stuck in a viscous cycle, hope. Together, we can show them love, grace and mercy, and give them a "Second Chance". ----JD Rule
